Cress was an egg that had been swiped by bandits, looking to sell the egg as a delicacy to other species. However--whether or not you consider this lucky--she hatched before she could be sold. The bandit group was disappointed to have lost the profit on such a pretty little egg, but instead of leaving her somewhere to be found and taken to the Nook as they had done with a couple previous instances of early hatching, they decided to keep her. The bandit clan's numbers had thinned significantly recently, due to Wynsiph keeping a closer eye out for such things and fellow members had been caught and jailed. So there was definitely extra work that needed to be done, and though this kid would take a little time to grow enough to be able to do such things, the wait would be worth the free labor.

The kid was an interesting. Absolutely covered in spots and fascinatingly asymmetrical, with uniquely shaped eyes and pawpads that matched the crescent glow of the sun during the solar eclipse when she hatched. Thus, the bandits named her Crescent, though her name was often shortened to Cress as she grew.

Cress was a strong, sturdy wyngling, quickly able to tackle the tasks set upon her by her masters. Not knowing any other kind of life, she didn't see it terribly odd that she was bossed around, nor did she complain when she was beaten for doing something wrong. It was normal. Some of the nastier bandits she realized liked to force her into making mistakes just so they could terrorize her, but what could she do? Stifle the tears, hide the pain, and do it right. What choice was there?

Cress is a fierce, strong little kid, able to do all kinds of manual labor with relative ease. Never knowing a pampered day in her life, she's a bit crass, though at her core she's very friendly. In fact, when meeting others, she can be incredibly personable, unless she's under the eye of her masters, in which case she'll be much quieter and "well-behaved." In fact, she's actually be threatened to not say a word about how she's treated, or her punishments will get worse, so that in combination with her practice hiding her tears while around her masters, has provided her with a well-honed skill of deception. You could point out a gash across her face from a dagger or a bruise on her ribs from a kick, and she'll easily brush aside the questions, claiming accidents. And she says it so casually, so easily, even the most insightful of wyngrew may have trouble suspecting anything beyond what she tells.

From the outside, she's a big rough and tough, big, strong, and perhaps a little scary to shyer wynglings, and her obedience to her masters is unwavering, taking precedence over anything else. But on the inside she's as soft as a marshmallow and sweet as honey. Dig deeper, and you'll find a sad, broken child who just wants a real friend. But she'll never, ever say that. She needs to stay tough, after all. But she is just a child, so perceptive adults especially can likely see through her assuring lies.

LITTLE CRESS IS HERE AT LAST!!! I thought today with the eclipse would be excellent timing for the hatching of this little kiddo. With the eclipsed sun casting little crescents through all the shadows of the leaves and whatnot, it just felt PERFECT.

But yeah, edgy sad gro. I'd apologize, but I'm excited for her plot, hehehe! But at least compared to my last sad kid Nyx, Cress will actually hang out with wynglings (when she's in town and doesn't have anything her bandit masters want her to do) and whatnot instead of pushing them away and slashing them in the face with her claws. So this kid is a-okay to hug without getting hurt. ;D

Also, hopefully this dang template makes sense. She's so dang complicated, man. But she IS pretty asymmetrical (heck u Pann), so if you want "easy mode" of drawing her, just draw her from her right side that doesn't have any firework markings except for the one on her cheek. Challenge mode is left side. Good luck with all those spots and fireworks. Good luck. But to clarify, she has the standard wyngling back placement surrounded by spot markings, which is why it looks a bit odd. But despite her complexity, I LOVE THIS KID AND I AM VERY EXCITED FOR HER ~~and to torture her and make you all have feels~~!!!
